Biography

Prof. Yue Ruan is a Ph.D. advisor from the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT), Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is recipient of the National Overseas Young Talent Scheme award. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Cambridge’s Institute of Metabolic Science in 2017, under the mentorship of Professor Roman Hovorka, a Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences. From 2017 to 2021, Dr. Ruan was Research Associate at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism (OCDEM) and the Big Data Institute at the University of Oxford. From 2022 to late 2023, he served as Senior Research Scientist at Abbott Diabetes Care’s R&D division in the United States.

​As the first author, Prof. Yue Ruan has published over 40 SCI journal articles and abstracts in top medical/biomedical engineering journals such as Diabetes Care (IF=19.1), Diabetologia (IF=10.1), Diabetes (IF=9.5), Age&Aging (IF=10.7), Diabetes Obesity&Metabolism (IF=6.6), IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering (IF=4.5), Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine (IF=5.4), and some of my achievements have been selected as hotspots and covers; As a core participant, I have published over 20 journal articles and abstracts in top medical journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine (IF=91.2), The Lancet (IF=79.3), and The Lancet Diabetes&Endocrinology (IF=32.1); In 2017, he presided over and participated in eight competitive scientific research projects, including "Personalization of glycomic regions to reduce in hospital hypoglycaemia" (the talent project between industry and Oxford University, UK, with a hit rate of 10%), medical devices - artificial pancreas research and development and its application in the diagnosis and treatment of type I and type II diabetes, with a total funding amount of more than 51 million yuan; He has been invited to participate in ADA, EASD, ATTD and other internationally renowned academic conferences on diabetes for 12 times and made academic reports; The research results of the clinical projects participated in have been reported multiple times by internationally renowned media such as BBC, Reuters, New York Times, Guardian, etc.

Research Areas

Application of wearable smart diagnostic and treatment management systems for chronic diseases (such as diabetes), applied mathematical modeling, statistics, control engineering, artificial intelligence, and computer simulation in medical intelligent diagnostics and treatment, along with the development of medical devices.
