研究领域
主要研究方向为古代有机残留物分析、珠子和硅酸盐材料(包括玻璃、玉器和陶瓷等),致力于运用现代科技方法挖掘古代遗存的潜信息,开展先进谱学分析的文物适用性研究,从而更好地了解古代人类活动和复原古代社会,解决相关考古学问题,并为文物保护提供基础信息和技术支撑。目前在先民的动植物利用、人类活动和东西方文化交流等方面获取了较多的潜信息。
率先在国内使用蛋白质组学方法鉴定古代遗存中蛋白质的种类和种属,推动了国内相关领域的发展;在此领域,领导的课题组是国内发表文章最多的课题组,是国际上发表文章较多的课题组之一。目前,正在建设中国ZooMS(基于质谱的动物考古学)数据库。
率先在国内将显微CT应用于考古文博领域,分析过石珠、玉器、鸵鸟蛋壳珠、釉砂、玻璃、食品、化妆品和植硅体等,大大拓展了显微CT在考古中的应用范围;在此领域,领导的课题组是国际上发表文章最多的课题组。
依托人文学院科技考古教学实验室、资环学院环境监测预警与污染控制平台和中科院脊椎动物演化与人类起源重点实验室(中科院古脊椎动物与古人类研究所)建立了国内少有的考古专用脂质分析平台,包括红外光谱(台式和便携)、气相色谱、气质联用、气相色谱-燃烧炉-同位素质谱等设备。
迄今为止,已在Science子刊、Nature子刊、《PNAS》、《Journal of Archaeological Science》、《Archaeometry》、《Archaeological and Anthropological Science》、《Journal of Cultural Heritage》和《Journal of Glass Studies》等期刊上以第一或通讯作者发表论文90余篇,其中SSCI/ A&HCI/SCI论文50余篇。2014年明代官窑釉里红呈色机制的论文被北京光源选为“研究亮点”;2014年小河墓地开菲尔奶酪的论文被《Nature》选为“研究亮点”;2015年血残留物的论文刊登在《Analytical Methods》上,被选为热点文章之一;2016年小河墓地牛心化妆棒的论文被Nature Asia选为“研究亮点”;2016年殷墟甲骨文刻划工艺论文刊登在《Mircoscopy Research and Technique》上,被选为封面文章;古代蛋白质的研究成果被英国皇家化学学会(RSC)2017年出版、牛津大学Pollard教授等人编写的教材《Archaeological Chemistry》(3rd Edition)引用,介绍古代蛋白质分析在考古研究中的作用;2019年古代大麻吸食起源的工作刊登在《Science Advances》并选为“研究亮点”,同时《Science》进行了点评和深度报道;2020年在Nature子刊发表蒙古奶残留物的评论文章;2021年刘家洼遗址化妆品的论文被《Nature》选为“研究亮点”。2022年法门寺香料研究以《PNAS》封面文章发表。
目前担任中国科学技术史学会科技考古专业委员会常务副主任,《Journal of Archaeological Science》副主编,《Science Bulletin》特邀编委、《科学通报》特邀编委、《中国科技史杂志》编委、《史前考古》编委。
