主要研究方向为气候动力学，侧重次季节—季节、年际—年代际气候与极端气候的变化，利用诊断分析和数值模拟深入海—陆—冰—气对其的影响机制。希望从多变的大气运动中挖掘深层规律，把握地球大气脉动。
