Yuansong Wei, Ph. D, Professor, working in Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Received Bachelor of Fine Chemical 

Engineering from Jiangxi Polytechnic University in July, 1990, and Master of Environmental Engineering from Dalian University of Technology in July, 1995, respectively. 

Earned Ph.D of Environmental Engineering from Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences in July, 2000. 

As Postdoctoral studied in TNO Environment, Energy and Process Innovation, the Netherlands from March 2001 to March 2002, and worked as Visiting Scholar 

in EAWAG (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology) from March 2008 to March 2009. 


Major research interests including wastewater treatment and reclamation, sludge reduction and resource recovery from sludge, animal manure biological treatment, 

and river restoration, antibiotics and ARGs in environment. Have finished a number of projects funded by National High Technology Research and Development Program of China, 

National Major Science & Technology Projects for Water Pollution Control and Management, National Natural Science Foundation of China, local governments 

and enterprises. Have published over 270 peer-reviewed papers and 20 authorized patents.


Research Areas

1) Wastewater treatment and reuse: mainly focuses on biological wastewater treatment processes, membrane bioreactor (MBR), 

anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR), MBR-NF process, combined partial nitritation and anammox (CPNA) process, and 

CFD simulation and optimization for MBR.

2) Sludge reduction and resource recovery: mainly focuses on enhanced anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge by pretreatment, 

composting, enhanced sludge dewatering by pretreatment and conditioning, and nutrients recovery from sludge.


3) Treatment and reuse of organic solid wastes: mainly focuses on treatment of animal manure, muncipal solid wastes and food wastes 

by anaerobic digestion and composting.


4) River remediation and restoration: mainly focuses on river restoration by ecological and biological technologies, i.e., constructed 

wetland, and pathogen pollution control for surface water.
