Yuansong Wei, Ph. D, Professor, Director of Laboratory of Water Pollution Control Technology, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Deputy Director of CAS-TWAS Center of Excellence for Water and Environment (CEWE). Professor at University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Adjunct Professor at National Institute of Fundamental Studies, Sri Lanka. Awarded Bachelor of Fine Chemical Engineering from Jiangxi Polytechnic University in July, 1990; Master of Environmental Engineering from Dalian University of Technology in July, 1995; Ph.D of Environmental Science from RCEES, CAS in July, 2000, respectively. Worked as Postdoctoral in TNO Environment, Energy and Process Innovation, the Netherlands from March 2001 to March 2002, and worked as Visiting Scholar in EAWAG (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology) from March 2008 to March 2009.

        His research areas focusing on water pollution control for region and watershed, including membrane technology for water & wastewater treatment, organic solid wastes treatment and resource recovery, river restoration, and antibiotics resistance pollution & control in environment. He has supervised over 20 Ph. D and 50 Master students, including 13 foreign students. He has published over 390 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including over 160 peer-reviewed papers in scientific citation index (SCI) journals and over 30 authorized patents, and H-index is 40. As PI of over 60 projects funded by National High Technology Research and Development Program of China, National Major Science & Technology Projects for Water Pollution Control and Management of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China, CAS, local governments and enterprises. Awarded by the Second Prize of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award of China in 2018.


Research Areas

Water pollution control for region and watershed, including as follows:
1) Wastewater treatment and reuse: mainly focuses on biological wastewater treatment processes, membrane bioreactor (MBR), anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR), anammox process, modelling simulation and optimization for wastewater treatment, and advanced treatment of wastewater by membrane technology.
2) Membrane technology for water & wastewater treatment: mainly focuses on water purification and safe drinking water supply by membrane technology.
3) Treatment and resource recovery for organic solid wastes: mainly focuses on sludge reduction and utilization including enhanced anaerobic digestion, composting, nutrients recovery; treatment and resource recovery from animal manure, municipal solid wastes and food wastes by anaerobic digestion and composting.
4) River/lake remediation and restoration: mainly focuses on river/lake restoration by biological and ecological technologies, and pathogen pollution control for surface water. 
5) Antibiotics resistance pollution & control in environment: mainly focuses on fate and remove of residual antibiotics and antibiotics resistance genes (ARGs) in animal manure, sewage sludge, wastewater, and surface water.
