Yu Lei is currently a research associate professor of Shanghai Institute of Micro-system and Information Technology (SIMIT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He received the B.S. degree in electronics from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, China, in 2012, and the M.S. degree in IC engineering and the Ph.D. degree in microelectronics from SIMIT, CAS, Shanghai, China, in 2015 and 2018, respectively. He has been engaged in product development in a well-known enterprise in the memory industry. He joined the State Key Laboratory of Functional Materials for Informatics, SIMIT, CAS, Shanghai, China, in 2018. He was a recipient of the many talent programs such as Shanghai Sailing Program, Youth Innovation Promotion Association of CAS and SIMIT Star Program.

He has been engaged in the research and industrialization of memory circuit and 3-D in-memory-computing chip for a long time. He has achieved a number of innovative achievements in the fields of circuits/EDA tools/architectures of 3-D emerging memory, phase change memory and near-memory-computing. As a PI, he has undertaken 9 projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Shanghai Sailing Program and China Postdoctoral Science Foundation. As a participant, he has undertaken projects such as National Science and Technology Major Project of China and National Key R&D Program of China. He has authored over 30 research papers in publications like IEEE Solid-State Circuits Letters, IEEE Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Systems, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs, IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS). He has made 3 oral presentations in ISCAS. He holds 37 patents. He was a recipient of the first prize of science and technology of China Materials Research Association (2019), Silver Award for innovation of China International Industry Expo (2018) and the third prize of science and technology of SIMIT (2019-2020). He is a member of the IEEE, IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society, IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, China Computer Association, China Materials Research Association, China Neuroscience Society and Shanghai Electronics Society.
