Dr. Xiao has been engaged in research in the field of water/wastewater treatment for a long time, including membrane separation technology and principles, wastewater treatment and reclamation processes, mathematical models for pollution and mass transfer, and spectral fingerprinting analysis of organic matter. He is currently a member of the International Water Association, a member of the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a young backbone of the Center for Excellence in Tibetan Plateau Earth Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is serving as an editor for the journals of Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering, Membranes, and Frontiers in Environmental Chemistry. He has published more than 120 papers, with more than 5,400 Google Scholar citations and an H-index of 38. He has won the Second Award for National Science and Technology Progress (2017), First Award for Ministry of Education Science and Technology (2017), ES&T's Best Technology Paper (2010), IWA-RMTC's Best Conference Poster Award (2016), and FESE's Outstanding Editor (2020).
