Kai Liu received his Ph.D. in 2017 from the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, under the supervision of Professor Xuehai Yan, where he developed biomimetic assembly strategies for constructing artificial photosystems and nanotherapeutics.  From 2018 to 2023, he worked with Professor Sijbren Otto at the University of Groningen as a postdoctoral researcher, supported by Marie Skłodowska-Curie and Simons Foundation Fellowships, focusing on systems chemistry, synthetic self-replication, and dissipative self-assembly.

Since 2023, he has been a Professor at the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, leading research on life-like molecular self-assembly and its applications in smart materials, catalysis, and biomedicine. He has published over 40 papers in top journals including Nature Chemistry, Nature Catalysis, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, and Advanced Materials, with more than 5,000 citationsand has received the CAS Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award and the CAS President’s Award.
