Jiadong Xiao was born and raised in Anhui Province of China. He received his BEng and BA from China University of Petroleum - Beijing in 2012. Between 2012 and 2018, he performed joint PhD studies on solar-driven advanced oxidation processes under the supervision of Prof. Hongbin Cao in the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Science and on catalytic in-situ electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy in Leibniz Institute for Catalysis (LIKAT) in Germany under the supervision of Prof. Angelika Brückner. With the emerging interest of catalysis and in-situ/operando spectromicroscopy, he joined Prof. Bert M. Weckhuysen’s lab in 2018 as a postdoctoral researcher in Utrecht University, The Netherlands, where his research focused on the design and synthesis of hierarchically tailored metal-zeolite solid catalysts for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and monitoring the catalyst particles’ birth process using various in-situ spectromicroscopies. In Nov 2019, he moved to Japan and worked with Prof. Kazunari Domen as a project researcher and assistant professor in Shinshu University, where he devoted himself into developing synthesis and cocatalyst-loading methods of tantalum-based oxynitride photocatalysts for efficient overall-water-splitting reaction. On approximately New Year's Day 2024, he joined the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences as an associate professor and Principal Investigator. His current research interest includes sustainable catalysis using solar energy, solid (photo-/thermal-)catalysts, and flow systems. Out of work, J. Xiao engages himself with badminton, strength training and, when possible, hiking and traveling with his family and friends.
