Research Areas
Our research interest is focusing on the details of molecular glycosylation. The tools and instrumentation used in this effort revolve around mass measurement of fragments derived from multiple stage disassembly of molecular ions. This detailed analytical approach embraces the chemistry of carbohydrates, the principles and operation of ion trap mass spectrometry, and the physics of molecular fragmentation. We rely upon the detailed information yielded by the multistage mass spectrometer to determine glycans structure. We draw upon biology, chemistry, and computer science to increase the scope, sensitivity, and throughput of technologies for practical glycomics.
