Dr. Bing Feng is currently a Principal Investigator at the Hangzhou Institute of Medicine, Chinese Academy of Sciences, sellected as National High-Level Overseas Talent Program. He received his bachelor's degree from the School of Pharmacy at Fudan University and obtained his Ph.D. from the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He then completed his postdoctoral training at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). Dr. Feng has made a series of original contributions in the fields of cancer immunotherapy and biomedical materials. His research focuses on the dynamic regulation of Type 1 and Type 2 immunity within the tumor immune microenvironment, aiming to develop next-generation personalized cancer immunotherapies.

To date, Dr. Feng has published 17 research articles as (co-)first or corresponding author in high-impact journals such as Nature (2 papers), Cell Systems (1), Advanced Materials (3), Advanced Functional Materials (4), Clinical and Translational Medicine (1), and Nano Today (1). He has also co-authored 14 additional publications in top-tier journals including Nature Biotechnology and Nature Immunology. His current H-index is 24, with over 4,400 citations, reflecting his broad impact in the international research community.

Dr. Feng is actively engaged in academic exchange and has delivered invited talks at numerous prestigious conferences, including:

He was honored with the Hubbell-Swartz Award for Young Bioengineers, and invited to give a keynote presentation at BioE2024, where his groundbreaking postdoctoral research and excellent communication skills received high praise.

Beyond fundamental research, Dr. Feng is committed to translational innovation. He has filed six invention patents, of which five have been granted, including one PCT international patent. The cumulative technology transfer revenue has exceeded 5 million RMB, and several of his discoveries have already been commercialized—advancing the clinical implementation of precision immunotherapies.

Dr. Feng’s research is characterized by the integrative use of immunology, bioengineering, and artificial intelligence. He has proposed and experimentally validated the beneficial role of Type 2 immunity in sustaining long-term antitumor responses, thereby challenging and expanding the traditional paradigm of tumor immunology.


Research Areas

Our lab is dedicated to uncovering new mechanisms and strategies in cancer immunotherapy, with a particular emphasis on the dynamic balance between Type 1 and Type 2 immunity within the tumor immune microenvironment. We aim to develop novel cell-based therapies and cancer vaccines grounded in this immunological equilibrium.

Our main research directions include:

  1. Mechanisms of Type 1/Type 2 immune synergy and balance in cancer immunotherapy;

  2. Strategies to enhance CAR-T cell functionality, with a focus on the regulatory effects of Type 2 immune factors;

  3. AI-driven immune landscape profiling and tumor classification to guide personalized immunotherapy decisions;

  4. Identification and targeting of key immunosuppressive factors involved in tumor immune evolution.

Our overarching goal is to drive a paradigm shift in cancer immunotherapy—from simply “boosting Type 1 immunity” to achieving precise modulation of immune balance through multidisciplinary innovation.
