Research Interests

Ultrafast science and technology is the general research area I have been working on, and my main research focuses on advanced ultrafast electron probes and their applications in material science, especially in ultrafast electron diffraction (UED) and photo-induced transient state of functional materials. More specifically, our research interests are 

  1.  to develop new-generation ultrafast electron diffraction, imaging and spectroscopy related techniques with unprecedented temporal, spatial, momentum and energy resolution; 

  2. to explore more complex sample environments via in situ/operando techniques with multiple stimuli (e.g., light, electrical, magnetic, thermal, and mechanical stress) and simultaneously measure multiple properties; 

  3. to investigate the non-equilibrium behaviors of materials, with the goal of visualizing, capturing, and directing the atomic-scale processes that underlie how materials and devices function, mainly including: ultrafast photophysics of twisted vdW heterostructures; light-induced phase transition and energy conversion mechanism in novel topological, phase-change, thermoelectric and photovoltaic nanomaterials; anisotropic lattice dynamics; temperature-assisted ultrafast diffuse scattering, and structure determination for biological sciences, etc.
