Dr. Chen has long been dedicated to research on optical system design and micro-nano optics, as well as ultra-precision optical manufacturing. To address the challenge that commercial software cannot accurately calculate freeform surface aberrations, Dr. Chen has proposed a phase-space model, enabling high-precision and reliable computations. For pain points in complex systems such as AR near-eye displays and automotive head-up displays, Dr. Chen has developed multiple novel design techniques and solutions that enhance performance and have been adopted by organizations including Huawei and the University of Jena. To tackle the difficulty of ultra-precision machining of complex curved surfaces and microlenses, Dr. Chen applied photolithography and other technologies to achieve ultra-precision manufacturing of domestic high-end laser equipment, high-precision 3D sensors, and microlenses for wide-field endoscopes. 

Dr. Chen has led projects funded by CAS, Huawei Germany, as well as collaborations with Zeiss Germany, etc. His work has resulted in several publications in journals like Optics Letters. Research outcomes have been used or commercialized by institutions such as the University of Rochester, UK's Qioptiq Group, and Huawei Technologies. Dr. Chen has received Awards including Huawei Product Line President Award.
