Research Interests

The presence of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in remote areas such as the Tibetan Plateau has resulted in considerable interest in their global transport and accumulation behavior. My work aims at the fractionation and cold condensation for POPs, which prone to preferential deposition and accumulation in cold areas. We are presently detecting the POPs concentrations in different matrix of Tibetan Plateau (air, soil, plant, ice, and snow, lake water) to map the spatial distribution of persistent contaminants across plateau. I set 4 active air samplers on different field stations of our institute, which aim to get high resolution atmospheric transport patterns of POPs, and depict the driving force for the “source-receptor” relations. Another aim of my research is to investigate the processes of certain POPs in Tibetan Plateau environment. The air-soil exchange status of legacy compounds (e.g. OCPs and PAHs) has been systematic investigated for the Plateau, which demonstrates the continuous deposit of DDTs to the Tibetan soil. This result highlighted the role of the Tibetan Plateau - like a “sink” for the global cycling of POPs.There are also some ice core and sediment core studies in my group which focused on the change of pollution features from past to recent.
