Research Interests

Dr. Xiankai Lu was trained as an ecologist with an emphasis on ecosystem ecology and global environmental changes. His current research focuses on the response and acclimation of forest ecosystems to global changes, especially for nitrogen deposition and land use. Dr. Lu is particularly interested in the biogeochemical cycles of key elements (e.g., C, N, and P), the acclimation of plants and microbes to chronic N inputs, and the mechanisms on soil carbon sequestration and nitrogen retention in tropical forests.

(1) Nitrogen biogeochemistry in forest ecosystems;

(2) Response and acclimation of forest ecosystems to global Changes, especially for nitrogen deposition;

(3) Mechanisms on soil carbon sequestration and nitrogen retention in tropical forests.
