Research Areas

Prof. Jing has over 20 year’s experience in the molecular genetic studies of biomass energy traits and leaf senescence in crops, with emphasis on the crop genetic improvement.

(1) Study of the origin of sweet sorghum and the regulation mechanism of sugar metabolism and biomass accumulation.

To reveal the origin of sweet sorghum by molecular genetic tools; To identify the genes and QTLs that differentiate sweet and grain sorghum and demonstrate the genome-wide patterns of genetic variation in sorghum; To identify the elite sweet sorghum lines with high stem sugar content; To increase the production and biomass of crop by genetic improvement.

(2) Analysis of the molecular mechanism of crops to abiotic and biotic stresses.

To analyze the physiological responses to abiotic and biotic stress in sorghum and maize; To understand the molecular mechanism of crops to drought stress; To investigate the drought tolerance and understand the regulation mechanism of stay-green and leaf senescence.
