Research Areas

Her previous research focuses on groundwater age dating using environmental multi-tracers, the dynamics of fresh and saline groundwater in coastal aquifers of the north China, including seawater/saltwater intrusion in Circum-Bohai-Sea Region. Her current research concerns variable-density groundwater flow and solute transport in heterogeneous porous media and karst aquifers, the effects of subsurface heterogeneity on free convection and the impact of salinization on the evolution of groundwater quality. In North China Plain (NCP), groundwater over-exploitation from deep fresh aquifer (more than 300 m depth) has resulted in that the shallow saltwater bodies have been intruded into deep fresh aquifer. Some deep fresh water has also been salinized in recent years. It will be an obstacle for realizing the groundwater sustainable utilization and management in NCP. On methodology, besides the isotopic and hydrochemical indicators will be used, numerical modeling and geophysical methods will be integrated for understanding saline water transport processes.
