Research Interests
My major is limnology
and paleolimnology. Although I use many limnological techniques to date and
extract environmental information from lake sediment cores, my specialty is the
application of stable isotopes (oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, strontium) to study a
broad spectrum of geologic problems including paleoclimatology, paleolimnology,
geochemical cycling and so on. I use sediment cores from the bottoms of lakes
to reconstruct the history of aquatic ecosystems and climatic environments.
These sediment profiles contain information on ancient climate change and human
impacts on the environment. Over the last twenty years I have undertaken various
research projects examining the impacts of recent lake eutrophication and
employing lake sediment records to assess millennial climate environmental
changes. One of my current research projects concerning
