Research Interests
My research firstly links specimen-based investigations of biodiversity inventory, taxonomy and systematics, phylogenetics and phylogeography of small mammals to questions in comparative morphology and ecological, historical biogeography, with a special focus on the Henduanshan region. A driving interest has been in the special geological background and the characteristics of high-diversity and endemism of mammals in this region. Describing the rich and to some degree overlooked biodiversity, and untangling the formation and radiation of the diversity form the core of my research program. My research also links endangered species-based investigations of ecology and behavior of western black crested gibbon to questions in comparative ecological behavior and adaptation to harsh environments, since that the fascinating small ape locates at the root of gibbon phylogeny tree, inhibits high elevation, lives in large monogamous/ polygynous family and occupies large home range. Elucidating ecological and social behavior in the ecological adaptation and formation social organization forms my large research work. Such research interests and expertise also extend to applications in conservation of endangered mammals and resource animals, such as musk deer and Asian elephant.
