周天军,气象学专业,理学博士,研究员,博士生导师,国家杰出青年科学基金获得者,中国科学院大气物理研究所所长助理,“大气科学和地球流体力学数值模拟国家重点实验室”(LASG)副主任,兼任中国科学院气候变化研究中心副主任。曾任世界气候研究计划(WCRP)/“气候变率和可预报性计划”(CLIVAR)亚澳季风委员会(Asian-Australian Monsoon Panel)主席、“全球能量和水循环试验”国际计划(GEWEX)GDAP委员、“国际SPARC(平流层-对流层过程及其在气候中的作用)计划科学指导委员会委员;​
国际气象和大气科学联合会”(IAMAS)中国委员会委员、中国气象学会数值预报专业委员会委员(物理过程工作组组长)、中国气象学会气候学委员会委员、未来地球计划中委会秘书长。IPCC AR5主要作者(Lead Author)。主要从事气候模拟、海气相互作用、亚澳季风变率和东亚气候变化研究。曾获国家自然科学二等奖(2008)、中国科学院优秀研究生指导教师(2010)。培养的博士研究生曾获中国科学院院长奖、中国科学院优秀博士论文、全国百篇优秀博士论文等。
