Education

Dr. Jiahua Zhang received his M.S. degree from Institute of Botany, CAS in Vegetation Ecology 1995; and Ph.D. degree in Institute of Remote Sensing Application, CAS in Cartography and Remote Sensing in 1998. From 1998-1999, he was a post-doctor in Institute of Atmospheric Physics, CAS; from 1999-2001, he was a post-doctor and a STA Fellow in National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan. Since Jan. 2002, he has been a professor at Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, Director of Remote Sensing and Climate information Sciences. From 2012 to present, he is full professor in Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth, CAS.


Experience

Prof. Dr. Jiahua Zhang is research professor of Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and chief scientist in global climate change and disaster remote sensing field. His research includes Global evapotranspiration , GPP, soil moisture, drought assessment based on remote sensing and modeling, climate change & atmospheric environment remote sensing,  Atmospheric–hydrological–ecological cycles, earth system interaction estimation and modelling; Disaster monitoring and assessment using remote sensing, modeling and GIS, e.g., drought, forest fire, flooding, dust storm, UHI, snow cover, etc; others research interesting cover land use and cover changes, vegetation dynamic, ecological investigation, effect of climate change on agriculture. He has been Principle Investigator for over ten major national projects or programs in China, and Principle Investigator for several international cooperation projects. He has published more than 100 peer review papers, 30 international conferences papers and 6 books. He is one of “100 talents of CAS”.
