Research Areas


The current research interests are nitrogen, carbon and phosphorus cycling in agricultural systems; microbial mechanisms of greenhouse gas generation, transformation and emission from agricultural soils; functions of microorganisms in rhizosphere.


Education

He achieved his BSc and MSc degree at Huazhong Agricultural University (China) in 1985 majoring soil science and plant nutrition, and PhD at Wolverhampton University (UK) in 2001 majoring plant molecular biology.

Experience


Professor Wenxue WEI (PhD) is a group leader of soil microbial ecology in the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the director of Taoyuan Agro-ecology Experimental Station, and the winner of “Hundred Talents Project” from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2006. He achieved his MSc degree at Huazhong Agricultural University (China) in 1985 majoring soil science and plant nutrition, and PhD at Wolverhampton University (UK) in 2001 majoring plant molecular biology. During 1985 and 1997 he was employed as a senior lecturer at Huazhong Agricultural University, and during 2001 and 2007 he was a postdoctoral researcher at University of the West of Scotland and Durham University, respectively. Up till now, he has attained important achievements in nitrogen cycling in agricultural systems; microbial mechanisms of nitrous oxide generation, transformation and emission from agricultural soils.



Honors & Distinctions

In 1998, his achievement in the molybdenum fertilizer  application technique for winter wheat in yellow-brown soils was awarded the second prize  for the progress in science and technology by the government of Hubei Province.
