Research Interests

Our research interests aim to elucidate the basic principles that govern interactions within the intestinal microbiota and between the commensal  microbes and the host. With grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) as the model organism, we apply systemic approaches and genetic tools to explore the effects of perturbations in the intestinal environment, such as changes in diet, microbial community composition, pathogen exposure, host genotype, and microbiota-targeted small molecules.

Specifically, our research focuses on the following aspects:

1. Relationships between intestinal microbiota and the host

a) Understanding the impact of intestinal microbiota on host's immune responses

b) Relationship between microbial communities in aquatic ecosystems and disease occurrence in aquatic animals

c) Roles of intestinal microbiome in host's nutrient metabolism

2. Mechanisms of beneficial microbes in regulating the aquaculture environment
