Research

My research is devoted to understanding the genesis of hydrothermal mineral deposits (Mo, W, Au, etc.) through a combination of field-based, experimental and theoretical methods. Studies on petrology, mineralogy, and fluid inclusion of these deposits mainly through microthermometry facilities, and Laser Raman, LA-ICP-MS, and SIMS, etc. trace-element and isotope composition measure system. Experimental studies emphasise determinations of metal solubility and speciation in hydrothermal systems, and simulations of hydrothermal alteration. These studies are conducted in a laboratory equipped with conventional high temperature autoclaves and ovens, hydrothermal flow-through autoclaves, and a Laser Raman spectrophotometer modified for high temperature spectroscopy. Theoretical research is divided between estimating conditions of ore/alteration mineral stabilities, and corresponding solubility and computer simulations of mineralization processes.

Projects in progress include: investigations of the genesis of Late Cretaceous Mo-Cu-W deposits related to granites in Shangri-La and Changdu Area, SW China (supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences); experimental studies of the solubility of metals like W, Bi, Au, etc. in aqueous solutions or vapours (supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China).
