Research Interests

I majored in Basin analysis and geothermal modeling when I was in Nanjing University. My thesis for B.S. is ‘The Pn anomaly and upper mantle anisotropy in Dongying depression of Shandong area’. My thesis for M.S. is ‘The Mesozoic evolution of the Sulu- Dabie orogen and the thermal modeling of North Jiangsu area’. Directed by my doctoral supervisors, I began to study the dynamics of basin formation through analogue and mathematical modeling from 1997. Based on detailed analysis of structures, sedimentation, regional tectonics and experiments, I finished my doctoral dissertation titled ‘Dynamic Analysis of the Yinggehai basin through analogue and mathematical modeling’.

After graduated in July, 2000, I came to the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and began to do more research about the tectonics and dynamics of the South China Sea from rifting to drifting. Presently, I am interested in four main topics:

(1)    The structures and the relative sedimentation process in passive continental margin;

(2)    The structures of continental transition zone and the controlling dynamics for continental breakup;

(3)    The dynamics for continental margin transition from subduction to passive continental margin extension;

The fault orientations along slow and ultra-slow spreading ridge and its dynamics.
