General

Enqing Hou (he/his/him) is trained as an ecologist and soil scientist, who is interested in terrestrial phosphorus (P) biogeochemistry and carbon cycle under global change (e.g., climate change and atmospheric nitrogen deposition).

Specifically, he is interested in questions such as how soil P dynamics determine soil P supply (or availability)? how climate or climate change would affect soil P dynamics and availability? how soil P supply regulates key terrestrial carbon cycle processes, e.g., plant growth, primary prodution, and soil respiration? how climate change and atmospheric nitrogen deposition would affect terrestrial carbon cycle?

To answer these questions, he has used approaches such as field investigations and sampling, laboratory incubation, data synthesis and mining, processes-based modeling, and data assimilation, to do research at local to global scales. The ultimate goal of his research is to improve our understanding of global change effects on terrestrial carbon balance mediated by P biogeochemistry, and to constrain our prediction of terrestrial carbon balance in the future.
