Research Areas

His research focuses on the controlled synthesis, electronic structures, optical properties and biomedical applications of inorganic luminescent materials such as lanthanide (rare-earth) nano-bioprobes.

Education

He earned his B.Sc. degree from University of Science and Technology of China (1993) and his Ph.D. from FJIRSM, CAS (1998).

Experience

   
Work Experience
From 2001 to 2005, he was a postdoctoral research associate at the Chemistry Division of Argonne National Laboratory, U.S. Department of Energy, where he studied the photophysics and photochemistry of heavy elements. In 2005, he joined the faculty at FJIRSM.

Honors & Distinctions

He is also Editor-in-Chief of J. Lumin., Handling Editor of Phys. Open, Associate Editor of Sci. China Mater. and Chin. J. Struc. Chem., Editorial board of Nano Research, BMEMat and J. Rare Earths, Advisory Board of ACS Appl. Opt. Mater., winner of the Distinguished Young Scientist Funding of NSFC (2013), the Ten Thousands Leading Talents Program of China (2016), the National Key Talent Project and National Young Experts with Outstanding Contributions (2017), and Chair of the Organizing Committee of 18th International Conference on Dynamical Processes in Excited States of Solids (DPC’13, Fuzhou, China, 2013). 


He has authored more than 280 SCI journal papers with total citation times of >21,000 (H-index=74, 28 ESI highly cited papers in the fields of Chemistry, Materials Science and Physics), 2 books, 7 book chapters, and 71 patents (55 licensed). He was selected in the 2018-2022 Elsevier China Highly Cited Scholars List and the 2020 "Author Profile" of Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. He was awarded with the 10th Fujian Provincial Young Scientist Award, China (2009), the 2nd Distinguished Young Scientist Award from Shanghai Branch, CAS (2010), the 17th Yunsheng Award for Distinguished Young Scientist, Fujian Province, China (2010), the Lu Jiaxi Distinguished Tutor Award (2012), the CAS Zhu Li Yue Hua Outstanding Tutor Prize (2016), Second Prize of 2017 Fujian Natural Science Award (2018), First Prize of China Rare Earths Science and Technology Award (Basic Research, 2018). Five of his most recent findings were featured as "The Most Important Advances for Optics in China” in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2016, respectively. Six of his findings were selected as “The Ten Major Science & Technology News of China Rare Earths” in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019, respectively.
