From 2001, he has been the principal of 15 research projects granted by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Hi-Tech Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), and the Innovation Foundation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2010, he received one Beijing Award for Science& Technology Progress. He has held 21 invention patents (18 of them are authorized) and authored over170 journal articles indexed by SCI. Dr. Meng is technical reviewer for journals such as ACS Nano, Small, Chemical Sciences.
