1982年中国科技大学近代物理系毕业,同年通过Cuspea选拔考试赴美深造。1988年在美国马里兰大学获博士学位。1988年至1991年在美国华盛顿大学、马里兰大学做博士后。1991年至2004年在美国Oklahome ;State ;University任助教授、副教授、教授;2004年至今任校董事会讲座教授;现为美国物理学会会士(Fellow)。2005年兼聘为中科院物理所研究员、北京凝聚态物理国家实验室首席科学家、凝聚态理论与材料计算研究室主任。2008年入选中组部“****”。
