聚变能的研究为人类最终解决能源问题带来了希望。但无论是磁约束聚变还是惯性约束聚变，要获得高性能等离子体，都必须抑制磁流体力学不稳定性，改善等离子体约束，本人的研究领域为磁流体力学不稳定性、等离子体输运与约束等。

Sci. & Tech.》编委等。

1995年，获国家杰出青年科学基金资助，1998年获延续资助。

1996年，获中科院自然科学奖二等奖1项。

1996年，入选首批国家百千万人才工程第一、二层次人选。

1998年，获国务院颁发的政府特殊津贴。
