Dr. Wang is a professor at State Key Laboratory of Membrane Biology in the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received his doctoral degree from Shandong University, and then preformed a post-doctoral study at Tsinghua University. Dr. Wang is a recipient of National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars. He mainly works on how a relatively uniform embryo becomes asymmetric during early developmental stages, and has made significant progress in elucidating the molecular mechanisms of embryonic body patterning that establishes the dorsal-ventral, anterior-posterior, and left-right axes. The related papers are published on the famous international academic journals such as Developmental Cell, Nature Communications, Science Advances, Blood, PLOS Biology, PLOS Genetics, and Journal of Neuroscience etc.

Research Areas

Our lab investigates how a relatively uniform embryo becomes asymmetric during early developmental stages. This asymmetry consists of two aspects, the initial cell fate decision and the embryonic body patterning that establishes the dorsal-ventral, anterior-posterior, and left-right axes. The function of genes and signal pathways like TGF-β, BMP and Wnt are being studied in zebrafish embryos and mammalian cell lines using genetic, biochemical and molecular approaches. Research progresses on these great mysteries will help us to get a better understanding of how a fertilized egg gives rise to a live baby.
