长期从事分子生态与进化研究。

榕属Ficus植物统称为榕树,广泛分布于热带、亚热带地区,全世界约750种(Berg 2003)。许多榕树具有较强的环境适应能力,生活型多样,能够持续不断地产生大量的果实供给鸟类和哺乳动物,是热带雨林的关键种植物(Lambert and Marshall 1991; 许再富 1994),同时许多种在荒山瘠地和次生林中生长良好,对森林植被的维持、恢复与重建有着重要的作用。榕树和榕小蜂组成了迄今为止所知道的联系最密切的互利共生系统,雌性榕小蜂为榕树传粉,榕树为榕小蜂提供繁衍和栖息的场所,大多数情况下,是一种榕小蜂给一种榕树授粉,这种协同关系已延续了几千万年(Weiblen 2002; Ronsted et al. 2005) ,是人们研究生物协同进化规律和进化历史的完美范例。在榕与榕小蜂共生系统中,还有非传粉小蜂,它们不为榕树传粉,对共生体系有着消极影响,此外,共生系统中还存在着菌类、线虫、蜱螨类或以榕果为食的鸟类、蝙蝠及其他哺乳动物,因此,一个榕与榕小蜂共生体系就是一个小型的生物群落。

本人从2002年开始便参加中国科学院知识创新重要方向项目“物种间协同进化及生态学效应”,对榕和榕小蜂互利共生体系进行物种调查、分类修定及系统发育等一系列工作。近年来,侧重互利共生体系协同物种形成及协同进化研究,采用形态学、物候学、繁殖生物学、植物化学、动物行为学、种群遗传学、转录组学和基因组学等方法多层次、多角度地对植物与昆虫间、动物间相互适应,协同进化机制和物种形成的遗传机制等进行全面、深入地研究。发表本领域SCI论文几十篇,其中第一作者或通讯作者 SCI论文20多篇,包括著名国际期刊Nature Ecology & Evolution, New Phytologist, Molecular Ecology(3篇), Molecular Ecology resources(2篇), Journal of Animal Ecology; BMC Evolutionary Biology, Tree Genetics & Genomes, American Journal of Botany, Symbiosis, Botanical Studies, Acta Oecologica(3篇);作为主持人获得过国家、广东省、中国科学院、国际基金等各类项目资助。

榕树与共生昆虫的协同进化和协同物种形成研究是国际热点,涉及到植物、昆虫和共生菌及其他各种生物,同时共生关系又受外界非生物因子的影响,因此,可从各个方面去探讨共生关系稳定性、物种形成及生物多样性等。本研究组从各个角度对此共生关系展开持续研究,希望有志科研,对进化生物学感兴趣的人员加入。
