Research Areas

Recently, Mainly engaged in the research projects of permafrost, cold regions road engineering and disaster prevention and reduction, especially in the researches on permafrost degradation, the permafrost engineering model test, numerical simulation of soil freezing and thawing process, and permafrost roadbed stability and application technology.

Education

      Got B.Sc. on Solid Mechanics, in the Department of Mathematics and mechanics, Lanzhou University, P.R.China in 1986 And then had been working in Lanzhou Institute of Glaciology and Geocryology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, engaged in the experimental research of frozen soil engineering since 1986.
      Had been studying and working for M.A.Sc. on Frozen Soil Engineering and Modeling Test, in State Key Lab of Frozen Soil Engineering, Lanzhou Institute of Glaciology and Geocryology, Chinese Academy of Sciences since 1990 – 1993.
      Studying and working for Ph.D. on Frozen Soil Engineering and Physics of Natural Geography, in State Key Lab of Frozen Soil Engineering, Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences since 1993 – 1998.

Main research interest: Frozen soil engineering and frozen soil physics.
• Undertook projects of the National Natural Science Fund and etc. Studied on typical embankment structures and prevention and cure theory of freezing and thawing disaster in permafrost regions
• Analysed the main influence factors on roadbed stability on permafrost, and calculated the critical heights of embankment and the influence extent of various factors by computers, Studied the massive crushed rocks application on the protection from permafrost thawing under roadbed and new roadbed structures in cold regions. 

Oversea Research experience 2002 – 2004
As a Postdoctoral Researcher and RA during June 2002 to August 2004, at the Group of Civil Engineering, in the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford, engaged in the research of Cyclical Behavior of Seabed Soils Containing Natural Gas.

• Conducted the field observation and data analysis, studied the influence of climate change and human activities on road engineering stabilities in cold regions.

• Studied the principle and criteria of large scale physics modeling for cold regions engineering. Including the relations among load, stress, strain, temperature, water content and time.

Responsible for soil sampling, conducting of triaxial tests including dynamic or low frequency cycle loading tests, analysis of test results.
