Research Interests

My research aims to understand the interactions between geomorphology, vegetation, and climate in arid and semiarid regions. I conduct wind tunnel simulation and field research to understand fine-scale flow structure, roughness elements and aeolian processes interactions. I have 15 years aeolian geomorphology research experience especially on the feedback mechanisms between changes in land surfaces and dune dynamic processes. Currently my research focuses on the formation and dynamic evolutionary processes of mega-blowouts on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and relations to the trigger mechanisms of desertification in alpine regions. Mega-blowouts are typical wind eroded landforms on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which have close contact with the permafrost degradation and climatic change in the past hundreds of years. This research utilizes ultrasonic anemometers, RTK-GPS, drone and luminescence dating to investigate the mechanisms of blowout evolution in high altitude regions, aeolian sand activity under low temperature and landform responses to climatic change and human activities in the past centuries.
