Dr. GAO Fei  joined the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, as an associate professor (PI) in April 2021. 

Education

      Dr. GAO Fei received his Dr. Eng. degree from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Hong Kong, in 2018, followed by three years of postdoc research at the same department. He joined the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, as an associate professor in April 2021. His work has been published in international journals in robotics and rehabilitation fields such as IEEE/ASME transactions on Mechatronics, IEEE transactions on Neural System and Rehabilitation Engineering, Mechanism and Machine Theory, ASME Journal of Mechanisms and Robotics, ASME Journal of Mechanical Design, Smart Materials and Structures, and Applied Physics Letters. In addition, Dr. GAO has filed 4 US patent applications (1 granted) and 5 China patent applications (1 granted). He received a top cited paper award, a featured article award, Best Conference Paper Award Finalist in IEEE ROBIO 2016, and Gold Medal in 46th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, 2018. His recent research interests include 

·         Powered/active lower limb prosthesis; 

·         Lower limb exoskeleton;

·         Locomotion mode identification for lower limb prostheses, orthoses, and exoskeletons; 

·         Energy harvesters for the human body based on electromagnetic generators;

·         Energy harvesters for  the human body based on smart materials transducers; and

·         Modeling of compliant mechanisms.
