General

My research interests root in fundamental understanding of how fungal genomes and genes work. My recent research activity has been centered around the most deadly mushrooms called Amanita. My group focuses on obtaining genomes of important Amanita species and deducing the molecular mechanisms of how these mushrooms biosynthesize the cyclic peptide toxins. We use genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, phylogeny, and bioinformatics to address important questions pertaining to toxin biosynthesis, poisoning, artificial cyclic peptide libraries, and evolution of the mushrooms.
