Research Interests

Dr. Duan’s research interests include the mechanism of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) latent infection, reactivation in vivo and related immunometabolism. Dr. Duan’s group has developed a new method to establish NK and T cell lines from patients with chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection (CAEBV) and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) by culturing the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) with the addition of recombinant human IL-2 (rhIL-2) and as little as 2 mL of whole blood. They discovered a new mechanism for latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) of EBV to downregulate RIG-I signaling pathway and inhibit IFN-β production by promoting RIG-I degradation dependent on proteasome. They identified miRNAs regulation involved in EBV infection and associated diseases especially in its related tumors. He is leading Human Cell Lineage Atlas Facility (CLAF) project. He has won 1 second prize and 3 thrid prizes of provincial and ministeria level, and 10 national invention patents. He has published more than 50 research papers in international journals.
