Two PhD student positions each for 3 years in duration are available immediately for highly motivated candidates at the Center for Terahertz Technology, Chongqing Institute of Green & Intelligent Technology (CIGIT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)..

Main research areas for these two positions consists on investigating the biological effects on biomolecules/cells of the broadband, strong pulsed terahertz wave (T-ray), including thermal effect, nonlinear resonance effects such as conformational changes or damage of biomolecules, interference of DNA transcription/protein synthesis, change of gene expression, permeability change of cytomembrane, activating or inhabiting genes, accelerating cell differentiation, cell apoptosis, et al.

Required competence: Master or PhD degree in bio optics or biophysics or biomedicine or other related disciplines, preferably knowledge in applications of terahertz spectroscopy/imaging in biomedicine. The candidates will also have excellent verbal and written skills in English.

Additional information: The position offers the possibility for independent research and for the advancement of scientific qualifications through a PhD degree.  A curriculum vita including a list of publications and 2 recommendation letters from two refrees (professors) may be send to Prof. Xiao-Yu Peng by email: xypeng@cigit.ac.cn.

Formal applications must be submitted via the application system (http://adis.ucas.ac.cn) before 12 January 2018. More information in detail can be found at the website: http://english.ucas.ac.cn/index.php

A Post-doctoral position

A full time post-doctoral position for 2 years in duration (but can be extended) is now available at the Center for Terahertz Technology, Chongqing Institute of Green & Intelligent Technology (CIGIT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

The successful candidate will possesses, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in bio optics, biophysics, biomedicine or other related disciplines and have excellent problem solving skills. He/she will also has excellent verbal and written skills in English and has a good track record of high quality publications.

The successful candidate will join Prof. Xiao-Yu Peng’ group who aims at the potential applications of T-ray in biomedical science including diagnostics and therapy. Main research areas for this position consists on developing early detection of cancers with THz techniques, and investigating the biological effects on biomolecules/cells of the broadband, strong T-ray. We are currently looking in particular for applicants with significant experience in early detection of cancer or other diseases with THz technology and T-ray induced thermal effect, nonlinear resonance effects such as conformational changes or damage of biomolecules, interference of DNA transcription/protein synthesis, change of gene expression, permeability change of cytomembrane, activating or inhabiting genes, accelerating cell differentiation, cell apoptosis, et al.
