Research Interests

Research Areas: Genetics, Genomics & Molecular Evolution Ecology of aquatic populations, communities & ecosystems

Research profile
: Frequent anthropogenic activities result in both rapidly changing environments and numerous pollutants released/introduced into environments. I have broad research interests associated with these rapid changes in human activity-influenced environments, particularly with respect to aquatic ecosystems. Generally, I utilize genetic/genomic and epigenetic tools, as well as other biological, chemical and environmental approaches, to answer fundamental questions mainly in 1) mechanisms/dynamics of dispersal, colonization and persistence of invasive species in difference environments; 2) genetic/epigenetic mechanisms of rapid evolution and local adaption in harmful species (including both native and non-native) during transport, introduction, establishment, spread and outbreak; and 3) influence of environmental stressors (biological pollutants such as harmful species and chemical pollutants such as chemicals and heavy metals) on biodiversity, communities structure and community functioning.
