·           Single-cell detection, single-cell sorting, sequencing, and culturing

·           Single-cell Raman spectroscopy combined with stable isotope probing to study functional and active bacteria in complex microbial communities, specially bacteria driven N and P biogeochemical cycling, microbial degradation, and antibiotic resistant bacteria.

·           Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopic (SERS) study of biofilm: dynamic evolution of bacterial species and chemical composition of biofilms.

·           SERS study environmental factor-mediated antibiotic resistance, mechanism and kinetics of the nanotoxicity of Ag, ZnO, Carbon nanomaterials
