Research Areas & Interests

Our laboratory focuses on understanding the genetic basis and molecular mechanisms of human diseases and aging. We are striving for EAF (E = Evolutionary analysis; A = Association study; F = Functional assay), Easy And Fun.

Current research has four major concentrations:
(1) onset risk factors and pathogenesis of leprosy, Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy and schizophrenia
(2) mitochondrial and nuclear gene mutations in major neuron-degenerative disorders and tumorigenesis
(3) interactions among mitochondrion, telomere, and telomerase activity and their roles in cell senescence and apoptosis
(4) the identification of genes and/or genetic variants that are associated with specific traits in domestic animals
