Research Areas

Currently focused on bioinspired robotics (bio-inspired swimming and amphibious robots), modeling and control, collective intelligence (multi-robot system), mechatronic design, advanced robot control (fuzzy system, artificial neural network, and central pattern generator based locomotion control), embedded vision, etc.

Engineering Ph.D. degrees
Received the B.E. degree in safety engineering and the M.E. degree in precision instruments and mechanology from the North China Institute of Technology, Taiyuan, and the Ph.D. degree in control theory and control engineering from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 1998, 2001, and 2004, respectively.

Work Experience

From April 2004 to February 2006, he served as a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Center for Systems and Control, Peking University, Beijing. From March to August 2008, he was a Research Fellow with the City University of Hong Kong, Kowloon, Hong Kong. From September 2009 to September 2011, he was a Humboldt scholar supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation with the Department of Informatics, University of Hamburg, Germany. Since March 2006, he has been with the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IACAS), Beijing. He is currently a Professor (from 2012) with the the State Key Laboratory of Management and Control for Complex Systems, IACAS.
