1983-1984:山东省临沂市东双湖小学任教,小学教师;
1988-1998:莱阳农学院工作,先后任讲师、副教授、教授;1996年破格晋升副教授、1997年破格晋升教授。
1998-2000:中国农业大学生物学院从事博士后研究,主要从事微生物生理与生物化学研究;
2001-2007:任中科院南海海洋研究所海洋环境与生态研究室室主任;
2003-2007:任中科院大亚湾海洋生物综合实验站长(即广东大亚湾海洋生态系统国家科学野外观测研究站);
